Born Erased "Birds Drink My Blood" out on December 4 via Cyclic Law

Still can't quite comprehend that my new album as BORN ERASED is released by the legendary ambient and industrial label Cyclic Law. I'm eternally grateful to them for believing in this record, and I'd also like to thank two of my personal heroes in atmospheric electronic music, Mondkopf & Vanity Productions, for being a part of it. Without Silvana Ilieva (artwork), Georgi Sharov (layout) & Marius Costache (mastering), I wouldn't be able to present this work as I envisioned it.

Birds Drink My Blood is the second full-length album from Born Erased, the latest solo venture of Bulgarian musician Angel Simitchiev. Conceived as a meditation on nature’s brutal beauty, the album channels the relentless flow of the natural world, its internal hierarchies, and the unseen forces that shape it. Electronic instrumentation forms the foundation of the record, marking this as the closest Born Erased has come to the final works released under Simitchiev’s now-retired Mytrip alias. 

Where I Am The End Of The World (BLWBCK, 2023) relied on the tension between acoustic drums, distorted guitars, and ambient electronics, Birds Drink My Blood turns inward, placing its focus firmly on electronic expression. Across six pieces, the music moves between stillness and intensity, occupying a space where fragile motifs and submerged power coexist. 

Born Erased once again opens the door to collaboration. French electronic artist Mondkopf contributes his intricate synth work to the track “Unmade,” while Denmark’s Vanity Productions brings his signature melancholy-drenched feedback and noise experiments to the abrasive “Dead Sun Emblem.” These collaborative tracks enhance the album’s contrasts, highlighting moments of interplay between guest interventions and Born Erased’s core sound. 

Birds Drink My Blood stands as a vivid reflection of a world where grace and violence remain inseparably entwined, and where collaboration amplifies the tension between beauty and brutality.

Dayin "Inert World" EP & Diminished Vigor video

I do realize 2024 ended with a new release of my trio with Martin Lukanov and Ivan Shentov, and at the beginning of the new year, I dropped two new tapes, one of which was Dayin material too, but it's been a tough job trying to keep all this music buried on my hard drive, so here's another little digital-only Dayin EP. Inert World consists of four quiet (by my standards) ambient tracks dedicated to a world that won't stop screaming. I hope you find some peace within it.

Dayin - Meditations On Forgetting CS out now on Mahorka

"Meditations on Forgetting" is the second Dayin release on Mahorka, after the extended cassette reissue "Warm Like Crystal Throats" in 2023. It was inspired by the unexpected and unstoppable process of memory loss. "Meditations on Forgetting" was created to honor the souls slipping away from the world they built from themselves. A transition that is equally scary and intriguing. One can only hope there are other, more beautiful and worthy realms beyond.

Amongst the dust and sealed windows a key is laid bare to unlock the forgotten and reanimate reality. A garden of solitary reminiscence opens up as a gleaming tunnel, confronting visions of a derelict Eden. 

Moving Houses is the debut collaborative effort of Niels Geybels & Angel Simitchiev under the name Waning End. It was created in an intuitive and impulsive exchange of sounds, ideas, and recollections. The process spanned within just a few months but was inspired by a lifelong fascination with nostalgia, with the urge to retrace what we leave behind or find along the way. Waning End was a means to revisit places that are no longer 'ours' but that made us who we are today. 

On the surface, Moving Houses builds a world where abandonment and emptiness reign supreme but the closer you listen the more you recognize the echoes of your own looping memories, saturated images, and fading presences of (not so) distant moments in time. Waning End embraces the past and orchestrates its fragile debris in a glacially paced, densely textural musical experience that welcomes you not only as a spectator but as a participant.

Born Erased "I Am The End Of The World" CS

I Am The End of The World is the first offering of Born Erased, a new endeavor by Bulgarian musician Angel Simitchiev, who first appeared on BLWBCK in 2013 with his now-defunct alias Mytrip. As both the project name and album title suggest, the music is meant to evoke bleaker, darker, and even dystopian visions. These are parts of a narrative that is simultaneously deeply personal and universal. Muted anger, despise, and hatred for the world collide with hope for freedom, even if it comes at the cost of the total eradication of the reality we are forced to live in. 

I Am The End of The World took nearly three years to be completed. The backbone of the record was written in a breath but then slowly structured and expanded upon. In this album, Simitchiev juxtaposes his nearly two decades' worth of ambient research with his long involvement in hardcore punk. Severely deformed guitars, cavernous synths, and drastically manipulated recordings of heavy machinery are organically intertwined to become the core of the album. A big part of why it is so impactful is that the gates were open for several guest musicians who added even more depth and character to a record already highly dense with sound. Moss Harvest (tape manipulation and textures) and V0LAND (cello) are found on two of the more straightforward ambient tracks in the album. Shattering, almost doom-influenced live drums on three of the tracks have been performed by Boris Malevanov (Nocktern, Heptagram) which brings this otherwise fragile and drifting genre to its most extreme form.

Farewell to my longest-going solo project Mytrip (2007-2022)

As you may have noticed, Mytrip-related updates have become scarce. After 15 years I felt this project simply ran its course. 

For the foreseeable future, the main discography of the project will remain online, at least until Bandcamp exists. There are still copies of my 7" with Shrine & the split with Evitceles in stock at me and via Amek. All other Mytrip releases are sold out but still easily available on Discogs or various online shops, that is if you care to complete your collections.

"Warm Like Crystal Throats" is an extended tape reissue of two digital-only Dayin EPs. Eternally grateful to Mahorka for preserving this music in a physical format.

Small bits of Angel Simitchiev’s abrasive ambient works under the name Dayin have previously made their way to the digital Mahorka catalog but his full-length debut on the label is a special one. “Warm Like Crystal Throats” is an extended cassette reissue of two previously self-released digital-only EPs that were only available from the Dayin Bandcamp page.

 

While “Warm Like Iron Claws”, which takes up side A on the tape, is just slightly remastered, its counterpart "Crystal Throats Are Singing" features two previously unreleased tracks from the 2020 recording sessions. Simitchiev dig deep in the vaults where Water Temple and Where Guilt Sleeps were waiting to be finished and included in this special edition, alongside a reimagining of Cloud Control. With the original version of the track also available as a digital-only bonus, the 2020-2022 chapter of Dayin’s cryptic aural existence is now finally put to a close.

Dayin "When did you stop looking at the sky" CS

My third full-length as Dayin is out today on Purlieu Recordings in Sweden. I recorded a big part of this record while touring with Expectations in September 2022, I finished it in Varna, Bulgaria, and invited Ivan Shentov (krāllār) and Daniel Donchov (Non-Photo Blue) to contribute a little something to some of the tracks. The result is available on tape limited to 60 copies and digital.

Three years lay between Dayin’s latest release “When Did You Stop Looking at the Sky'' and his 2019 Purlieu debut “Light Is Polluting the City”. While the project's music somewhat still lurks in similar harsher drone ambient territories, it also aims to create a calmer and introspective listening space. Inspired by personal memories and moments of contemplation, the new Dayin album doesn’t offer any sort of audio escapism, nor try to recreate visual snapshots through sounds. Instead, it sketches imaginary skyscapes and the species and spirits who inhabit them and make them alive.

The music of Dayin is raw, warm, minimalist, and dense all at the same time. Its melodic and harmonic layers exist in a vacuum of delay and are often crushed under waves of distortion. “When Did You Stop Looking at the Sky” was written as the musical equivalent of keeping your eyes open even if they start hurting because if you blink those sights that revealed themselves only for you might disappear. Stay awake at all costs.

Ангел Симитчиев "Призив"

My new solo album "Призив" is up for streaming. It's a charity album with a very important cause. So feel free to give it a spin and read its backstory below. 

In early 2022 I was commissioned by "Velingrad Mineral Water" to travel to the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria and capture the sounds and spirits of this special mountain. The goal was to create an album that tries to convey the majesty of this remarkable place. I traveled light, with no fancy microphones or recorders and yet the field recordings become the backbone of this work. Most of the sounds I captured were left untouched, while others became part of the musical texture alongside synth and guitar work I recorded in between my travels to the Rhodopes. Even if it might not sound like it, I went out of my comfort zone quite a few times when producing this album.

The initiative has a simple mechanic, the more the album gets played the more it will be donated to "Rewiliding Rhodopes Foundation", a fantastic organization of dedicated experts who are working hard on preserving the wildlife of the region, repopulating endangered populations of herbivores, carnivores and scavengers to ensure a better future for the ecosystems in the region.

Angel Simitchiev & Linus Schrab "Airborne" CS

First album I'm releasing under my own name, a collaboration with Linus Schrab (V I C I M, Thet Liturgiske Owäsendet, Purlieu Recordings). Of course released via Amek Collective on tape limited to 80 copies & digital.

“Airborne” is a collaborative album from Angel Simitchiev (Mytrip, Dayin), also the first one released under his real name, and Linus Schrab (V I C I M, Thet Liturgiske Owäsendet, Purlieu Recordings). Throughout its seven tracks we observe two individual creative visions organically merging to shape a sound of its own. “Airborne” was recorded in May 2019, during an intense creative weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The album showcases different facets of Simitchiev and Schrab’s rich musical palettes. From the ritualistic melancholia of opener ‘Initiation’, the industrial intensity of ‘A Smoke That Will Never Clear’, to the anemoia-inducing ghostly melodies of the self-titled piece and the dystopian, yet forlorn soundscapes of the album’s longest piece ‘Spores of Humanity’, “Airborne” is a work that combines ambient delicacy with the intensity of noise and post-industrial soundscapes.
